Write about a pig

If you look closely? Everyone is laughing!

Maybe it caught my eye because my parents were pig farmers many years ago. Or maybe it’s because I once attended a wedding that was interrupted by a bat swooping at the bride and divebombing the guests throughout the ceremony whenever the organist played (the only thing I really remember about the wedding was the bat, and laughing my a$$ off while holding the Bible over my head!). Or maybe it’s because I really love the whimsicalness of life…but this 1927 picture of a wedding in rural England photobombed by a pig? I couldn’t resist it! Because I think you need to write about a pig.

There were probably people at this wedding who thought the wedding photograph was ruined by the pig. Au contraire!

I think the pig not only stole the show but it made the day. The genuine delight behind the smiles and laughter is beautiful. The bride is laughing loudly! Instead of a stuffy posed picture? The wedding picture was now filled with joy and whimsy.

Normally, I don’t throw any rules at you but there is one today. No sad or angry pig stories. Save those for another time.

I want you to write a gentle story about a pig.

Now It’s Your Turn!

Listen. There have been all sorts of cute pigs in your life. You just need a moment to think about them.

You can imagine the story from the wedding picture above and write from the pig’s point of view on the situation.

Or you could dive into Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White and write about how the book impacted your childhood. You could write about Miss. Piggy from the Muppets. You could write about the porcelain piggy bank your grandmother had in her bedroom. Or perhaps the philosophies of Piglet from Winnie-the-Pooh by A.A. Milne inspired you. Maybe you had a beloved stuffed pig. It doesn’t matter. Just write about it!

If you want to ham it up with some humour? Even better.

See? I won’t pen you in.
