Do you wish you could write? Or you'd like to get back into writing? You've landed in the right place! I'm Kim Duke, your writing coach based in Canada. I help women start writing for the sheer joy of it!
We’ve all been there.
You have the best intentions of writing something brilliant, however, your brain refuses to cooperate. You’ve got nothing but helium between your ears.
You type. You delete. You write. You scratch it out.
Airhead.
Ditch the expectation that you have to create something brilliant. Instead, pretend you’re telling your best friend this story over a glass of wine. At midnight. And you’re eating from a big bowl of popcorn.
You’re relaxed; you don’t worry about perfect grammar. You bring your BFF into the story quickly vs dragging it out. (You know your best friend would never put up with it.)
Let the words flow – goofy as they may be. It may be riddled with bullet points or one terribly long-drawn-out sentence. Hopefully, it is as messy as hell.
When it’s messy? That’s when you know you’re getting somewhere.
And from all that crappy air-head-ed-ness writing? (Yes. I make up my own words.) You’ll discover a thread you want to follow.
A thin sentence shimmers when you look at it in the right light. You instantly recognize it’s good.
And that’s where you build from.
It’s the string on your balloon that guides the way.
