Writers In The Woods
*One requirement. You MUST be a current/ active Scribbly member in one of the following programs!
Why? It’s important that everyone who attends is on the same SCRIBBLY PAGE. You’re part of the community and you’re already a devoted Scribbly member. (And you understand my Scribbly way of doing things!)
And there’s such a comfort when you know you’re surrounded by like-minded people.
This isn’t a retreat in a huge hotel where you sit for six hours with 700 people in crappy chairs while you watch someone on stage.
And where you don’t get personal feedback on your writing.
Forget that!
Instead, you’ll Mind Marble on new ideas for your writing. You’ll learn and practice writing strategies both alone and with your Scribbly friends. They love Scribbly. They love to write. And they also want a little jolt of momentum!
Cozy. Intimate. Friendly. Inspiring.

*Airfare or other transportation costs.
*Transport between the Edmonton International Airport and your Sherwood Park hotel.
*Sherwood Park hotel costs.
*Dinner (supper) on Friday and Saturday evenings after the retreat.
(Remember. You’ll need your passport to come into Canada!)
There are many taxi and Uber options available at both the airport and hotels.
The hotels we recommend are under $200 CDN/night.
Closer to the event – we’ll send you a list of recommended restaurants to go experience in Sherwood Park. There are many delicious and affordable options and as it is a small city? Everything is only a few minutes away from your hotel by Uber or walking.
You’ll want to arrive the day before our retreat, so be here on Thursday, September 12th. This gives you time to get to the hotel, get settled in and go for dinner. And get lots of rest before getting picked up the next morning at 8:00 a.m. MST.
About 35-40 minutes. (You’ll go through customs at the airport if you’re arriving from out of Canada.)
Don’t count on it. Most businesses accept Canadian currency only. Of course, you can use your credit card and you’ll be charged in Canadian funds. Your debit card may not work here so you’ll definitely want a credit card.
Fall is a beautiful time of year in Alberta. The leaves start to turn and the weather is usually 62 degrees Fahrenheit (17 degrees Celsius). Bring cozy clothes for writing. Jeans and a sweater. Your favorite yoga pants and jacket. Bring a cardigan or shawl for when you’re writing. Also bring a light jacket and a good pair of walking shoes in case we do have time for a short nature walk. And check the weather for Edmonton online before you fly in case we’re having a little heat-wave!
I’ll refund you 100% of your registration fee if you cancel 60 days before the retreat. So that means July 13th, 2024.
After that? You can attend a future Writers In The Woods and use your credit for the registration.
Once you’re registered? We’ll send you some recommended hotels that are affordable and where the central pickup and drop-off point will be each day. (And for my American/ International Scribbly members? The hotels charge you in Canadian dollars so you save approximately 30%!)
We’ll send you the location information once you’re registered and you can GPS your way there. The cottage writing retreat location is about 10-15 minutes away from Sherwood Park. However, keep in mind it is in a rural area and we don’t want you to get lost! (We recommend you take the transportation we’re providing. Because we don’t want you to miss out on anything!)
Hmm. First of all, you’re going to be in the woods. In the autumn. So please bring your allergy meds if you’re allergic to leaves like I am. Regarding food options? We’ll provide some gluten free or vegetarian options as long as we know 30-days ahead. Anything else —we can’t guarantee.

I’m a forager and I love walking in the forest. In the area of the Boreal Forest where the retreat is —you don’t have to worry about bears (they live further north).
It is sooooooo beautiful here and I can’t wait to show you my corner of the world!
