I’m a storm lover. The wilder the storm; the happier I am. Now, I do live in Canada so it isn’t like I have tornadoes barreling down the street. But relentless blizzards dumping millions of pounds of snow? Yep – we get that. Wicked summer thunderstorms with lightning stretching its long arms across the sky? Yep – we get those too. (I’ll share my lightning story another time. It’s a good one!)

What I love best about a thunderstorm? Watching it gather itself and reach deep within its soul for energy. The forest becomes eerily quiet and the sky turns a strange ominous green. I love being in the middle of this cone of silence. The anticipation is eerie and beautiful. And when the wind hurtles itself forward, thrashing the trees and warning everything about what’s coming? It also brings the primal scent of rain like when someone with a beautiful perfume first enters a room.

I stand in its wild beauty with my eyes closed and my hair blown back and I feel alive.
